It’s been a bit since I’ve shared my thoughts. I’ve had plenty of them swirling in my head but not much of a desire to type. I’ve had numerous eye rolls and head explosions over the inept cockadoodle doo media while I’ve been silent because they are the gift that “keeps on giving”. I mean seriously…. all the crap going on in this world and the White House press pool is asking the most powerful leader in the free world WHAT FLAVOR ICE CREAM he ordered. Give me a damn break!
Go back and find me those same dimwits shouting questions at the previous guy that are as soft as a marshmallow! You won’t. They didn’t. It’s become ridiculous beyond measure which is why I choose to spend my time with my furry roommate on a patio reading novels instead of “news” because I’m tired of having to sort thru the clownshow commentary to find the actual news.
I’ll tell ya something that I firmly believe……. The Washington Post does run ONE accurate item every single day without fail. They get a LOT of stories wrong but this one item is 100% correct day in and day out. “Democracy Dies in Darkness”. It absolutely does. When journalists in our country fail to ask questions (difficult questions), investigate corruption, and report facts with zero bias…. welp, …..ask a person from China, North Korea or Cuba how they like living in a place like that.
Let’s get to the crux of why I’m typing today though….
A group of Texas Democrats have FLED (not the word I would use but what ev) the State to prevent a vote on a bill. It doesn’t matter WHAT the bill is about, it really doesn’t. They left their home state because that was the only way to prevent a vote in the state legislature that wouldn’t go their way.
The word for that is “Filibuster”. Just a few months ago…. the Democrats across this country resoundingly stated that filibusters are BAD. Even Kamala weighed in on the argument. Many of them stated that it is WRONG for a a minority to be able to prevent a majority from legislating.
Do you see the irony of it? Now…… these state “flee-ers”are HEROES! They are heroic for taking a stand and preventing legislation. Yeah…. BLOW IT OUT OF YOUR TAILPIPE! That’s truly all I can think of to say about it.
It’s NOT that Democrats hated a “minority” from freezing out a “majority” from legislating….. It’s that they hated their inability to RAM THROUGH the bills and policies that THEY support. Clearly, there is no other way to see this because these very same people that were screaming about eradicating the ability to filibuster anything in D.C. are now cheering on politicians for participating in a filibuster.
Governor Abbott has stated that he would call emergency legislative sessions continuously so the moment these folks put a toe back in Texas, they are gonna be sporting some shiny silver bracelets. I honestly don’t know how I feel about that one. I think that’s up to the folks in Texas to sort out and Abbott is up for re-election soon so I feel like that will be the “sorting out”.
But… I do find it mind-blowing that elected officials can be heralded as heroes for leaving their state and their constituents. They loaded up a bus with a case of Miller Lite, hopped on a private jet to DC and many people seem to be ok with that. I don’t care which side of the political aisle you are on….. I just don’t see how this is acceptable behavior of public servants.
And the last thing I’ll point out about this little publicity & fundraising stunt they are pulling…… did any of you notice that these folks didn’t make the 22 hour drive in a Prius?? They didn’t squeeze their butts into an electric vehicle to save the planet while they headed east. Nope, they used a diesel fuel guzzling pollution spewing BUS to get them to the airport. THEN…. they hopped on a PRIVATE jet that ALSO is a fuel guzzling pollution spewing mode of transportation. SO…. at the very least, when these same folks DO get back to doing their job and they want to convince you that U.S. citizens need to do all that we can to stop the destruction of our planet…… maybe the media should ask them about this little trip they took.
But…. they won’t. The Washington Post predicted the future and sadly…. I think we have reached it!
