I haven’t written a BLOG in a bit. Life with the roommates has been chaotic for the past week which surprisingly has become a “good thing”. As the mom of 2 that are flying the coop and very rarely under my roof….. a pile of dirty laundry and dirty dishes really warms the cockles sometimes.
I’ve tossed ideas over in my mind about various topics to BLOG about but none of them got my fingers to the keyboard until today. I awoke this morning to the “60 Minutes” debacle and hence….. here I go.
Let me begin by saying, I grew up with “60 Minutes”. Every Sunday night at 7 pm our TV was tuned into the ticking clock and the voices of Mike Wallace and Harry Reasoner. At my young age, I didn’t understand many of the topics they reported on, but I was smart enough to know that Mike Wallace was NOT someone you wanted to see walk through the front door of your business establishment. That was especially true if you owned a car repair shop because that man was not only bringing a camera crew, he was also carrying receipts. On numerous occasions I watched as people would finally throw up their hands and say, “Yep, you got me…. we didn’t REALLY put a new transmission in her car”.
BUT….. that was a lifetime ago and “60 Minutes” then is NOT “60 Minutes” now. You might still believe that they are an austere news show but your belief is wrong. Over the years, they have evolved from stellar investigating and truth telling to absolute falsehood slinging. They have no journalism standards to speak of or at least none that I would be proud to speak of. They no longer sit atop a mountain of journalistic integrity but are instead buried under a flaming pile of lies. It’s disgraceful what that show and ALL (yep…ALL) of their talking heads are now.
IF…. you missed the episode of which I speak… lemme give you a recap. The “60 Minutes” gang aired a ditty about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis choosing Publix grocery chain to dispense COVID vaccines because they were a big donor to his campaign. They made the inference that Ron single handily picked Publix for his personal gain. They insinuated that the citizens of Florida and their needs were not a priority to him.
Here’s the video they showed their audience along with the unedited video that they did NOT show. It’s 3 minutes long….. WATCH IT!!! (even if there’s no picture and just a play button….. the video will play)
There is NO WAY in this world OR the next that you could watch both versions and say…. “meh.. not much difference”. The entire story changes when you hear ALL of the actual words Governor DeSantis said.
Here’s the absolute mind blowing thing for me about what they did on Sunday night: They deceptively edited a video to change the story... aka… lying. They lied. They know they lied. They know we know they lied. AND…… they DO NOT CARE! They don’t care a bit.
In the past 24 hours they have been called out by the Emergency Management Director of Florida, Publix, the Democratic Mayor of Palm Beach, The Federalist, Axios, Slate, FOX News, ABC News and many many more. They DO NOT CARE. They “might” issue a 2 sentence tweet or a 7 second statement next Sunday night, but the damage is done. The fake story has been flung around the country and at this point…. a correction is a waste of time.
For them, the story has been told. The story has been watched (by many of you lame brained buffoons that still watch them). The goal was to smear the highest ranking elected official in the state of Florida (Governor Ron DeSantis) and they met that goal.
Make no mistake… this entire story they ran had very little to do with COVID vaccinations. It had very little to do with whether a corporate donor received a perk. You are a blind baboon if you don’t see millions of Republican voters around this country raising a high 5 to a Governor with the stones to tell Lord Fauci of Wuhan to shove it! He set the citizens of his state free from these lunatic lockdown rules. He opened the schools so kids could be educated, play sports, and be…. kids! He’s getting noticed nationally and it appears he will get the nomination to run for POTUS against Kamala if he wants it.
THAT’S what this tale of lies they told is really about. They are planting seeds to grow a masterpiece of misinformation and accusations against a political candidate.
IF you still think …. “60 Minutes” is unbiased and ethical, then answer me this riddle:
IF Gov. DeSantis received approximately $100k from Publix and that is why they got the contract for vaccine distribution and “60 Minutes” was correct in exposing this “pay for play” ….. WHY hasn’t the show run a story on Gov. Newsom (D-CA) selecting (without bids) the exclusive responsibility of allocating the California’s COVID vaccine to Blue Shield CA after they gave him approximately $1Million in campaign and pet project donations??????
Quite the riddle isn’t it?! It would be comical if it wasn’t so damn disgusting! IF you are interested in a “scandal”…. look into that one! It was a NO bid contract. That story has layers like an onion…. there is money (ie.. bonuses) being given to health care providers for…. providing health care. I mean seriously…. it’s a FLASHING billboard of “Pay to Play” but alas….. 60 Minutes must not have a crew that could make it to the west coast to tell that story!
Are you mad? Upset? Irritated? This is NOT a high school journalism broadcast. THIS is a Primetime CBS network news show! IT MATTERS that they took to the airwaves on Sunday night and lied or for you pearl clutchers… “mislead” their viewers. Because… here’s the really big part…… it’s NOT the 1st time they’ve done it. It won’t be the last time they do it. If you aren’t seriously questioning ALL of the stories from those clock ticking fools then you STILL aren’t “getting it”.
They’ve had Anthony Fauci on. Do you think they mighta taken some liberties with editing what he said? They’ve had Joe Biden on….. do you think they told you the honest story about him? How about the Trump administration??? They had The Donald on. (he brilliantly taped the interview himself and released the full version before the show’s edited shitshow version aired) And the Attorney General, William Barr. They’ve had CDC spokespeople on to discuss COVID. They’ve done stories with CBP agents about the situation at the border. They’ve had the Secretary of Education on to discuss issues effecting our kids and schools.
The list goes on and on and on. The people they’ve interviewed and the stories they’ve reported are about our country…. our lives…. our kids. Maybe it’s just me but those topics and those people are pretty damn relevant right now and listen to me here…… You CANNOT continue to believe these corrupt clowns. You just can’t. Do you know why?? THEY DO NOT CARE if they get it right or wrong. It’s irrelevant. It’s unimportant.
The story is what they WANT the story to be … NOT what the story truthfully is.
Grasp that concept. Take note of it because it applies to the entire media industry. Every news media organization in our country is chasing viewers, ratings, and advertisers. Do you see what I did there? I left out the part that YOU want them to be chasing. THE TRUTH.
Yeah… LOL! That’s not their “schtick” anymore and hasn’t been for quite a while. Many of you are scratching your head like…. well then, Who do we trust? Who do we watch? Who do we read? I wish I could tell you but it’s really not that simple. I wrote a BLOG a looonnngg time ago about this very thing. Either be willing to invest time in reading or watching a story from at least 2 different sources or don’t bother reading/watching AT ALL. You are wasting your time. Go watch the grass grow. It’ll be a better use of the hours you have on this Earth.
I can tell you this much for sure, you just got an extra 60 minutes of free time on Sunday nights since there’s nothing worth watching on TV that night. Enjoy it!
