Good Monday morning to everyone! It’s been a wonderful weekend with the roommates! I’ve had piles of laundry and been to Kroger 3 times in 3 days. It’s A FULL HOUSE over here but that will be changing later today as one heads west to return to the campus in the hills. Roomate 3 got accepted to the University of Arkansas yesterday…. so now the REAL lobbying has begun.
It doesn’t seem that long ago when they were trading swings while rolling around on the ground fighting about some hugely important item of the moment. They vowed then to be “enemies for life”…..the earth continued to rotate and here we are many years later and number 2 is doing his almighty best to convince 3 to go to Fayetteville next year. Maybe he will…maybe he won’t, but the mere fact that one “wants” the other nearby melts my heart. Time has a way of changing our priorities, our interests, things that we like/dislike, things we stand firm on and things we realize aren’t nearly as important as we once thought…… time allows us to evolve.
We are on the eve of another Presidential election and the media heads along with the candidates are all slinging the.. “This is the BIGGEST MOST important election to ever occur… it wll MAKE or BREAK the country.” So… they’re saying the 45 before were, meh……not so important. Really? I think the citizens in 1860 would like a word. They were on the brink of a permanently divided nation when they were casting ballots. How about the citizens that were voting after Archduke Ferdinand was popped? Or the election we had for the 32nd President in 1940? There was a bit going on back then that was either going to MAKE or BREAK the world.
We as a nation voted each and every time. Did we get it right? We survived so I suppose the answer is yes, but it very well could be NO. We’ll never know “what could have been”. We have always prided ourselves on being “the adults in the room” when it comes to how we elect representatives and leaders in our constitutional republic. From the things I’ve seen over the past 4 years and what I’ve seen over the past 48 hours, I think as citizens we need to work a bit harder on “how” we handle the election instead of the “who” in the election.
Let me give you a few items that have been occurring lately. We’ve got protests happening outside of POLLING places. Ok.. that’s a huge NO-NO! I don’t care which candidate you support but you make your case…. say your words, print your reasons.. but the property of a polling place. Hell NO! If you are still slinging your political stump speeches there…you need to come to grips with the fact that .. you aren’t gonna “Get it Done” in the last 20 yards. Aside from that, it’s ILLEGAL.
Then we have the massive and I mean massive car parades occurring throughout the nation. These things have gone on for over 50 miles in some areas. Flag waving cars and trucks doing their version of “Get out the vote”. I’m sure the family truckster that is in hour 9 of a 19 hour trip is really pleased to see all of that traffic jumbling up their route and will be persuaded to cast a vote in the direction of the asshat political candidate that is encouraging these pokes to clog up the fast lane.
We’ve got the preparations in cities across the land for the moment the final results of the election are announced. No.. not the fireworks shows. These are the boards going up on glass shop fronts in many downtown cities. They know there is a high likelihood that a certain party will not handle the loss… shall we say… as well as they should??!! The candidate that supports and is supported by Antifa and BLM wholly owns those destructive souls and should be doing everything in their power to discourage the riots that those folks have proven to be damn good at.
I say all of this because people need to step back and take a breath from the political nonsense that is a 24/7 circus act in the country. Seriously… it’s the biggest most important event in the lives of 4 people…. Trump/Pence and Biden/Harris.
For the rest of us… we’ve got laundry to do, food to cook, and paychecks to earn. No matter how much they tell you that your mere existence depends on how you cast your vote, I strongly encourage you to step back from that and see the big picture. Our Government works. (well…. some branches have more FRUIT than others) but for the most part, it works. People across the world envy our way of life and want more than anything to be a participant in it.
A short 4 years ago, we heard the exact same political stump speeches and the upset of all upsets occurred. Did your life end? Did you lose any of your rights? We’ve had 3 Associate Supreme Court justices placed on the bench in the past 4 years. Each time they were vetted, we were told… this is it! Immigrants will be rounded up and banished. Health care will be a thing for only the wealthy and the poor will be dying on the steps of hospitals. Individual liberties will be destroyed and we will return to the dark days of slavery and segregation. None of that happened and it won’t happen again.
People need to have faith in humanity for goodness sake! I’m tired of hearing the wailing and gnashing of teeth that a presidential administration will utterly destroy all that we are and all that we stand for. THIS IS NOT NORTH KOREA or VENEZUELA! Our founding fathers in my opinion deserve the Nobel Prize for “Brilliance” every single year. To the point that people would see the news and say, “Good grief….. Them … AGAIN?” What is this the 233rd time now??”
They were brilliant in the way they structured our Government. No one man will ever destroy what millions of Americans have built with passion, faith, lives, and hardwork. NO ONE. Not a Biden or a Trump. Turn off the damn TV, shut the laptop, close the paper (if anyone still opens those things) and look around. Yes, the COVID has made things look a bit strange, but we are STILL America and the COVID will become a distant memory some day.
Regardless of who WINS the election….. never forget that the fact that you as a citizen are provided the right to cast a vote for either one of those people proves that things are NOT all wrong. Some of the gears and belts made need to be oiled but for the most part, our country is rumbling along.
