Good Tuesday morning to everyone that thinks their small town lifestyle ain’t looking so bad these days. Yes, it is true we don’t have the Museum of Natural History or Broadway plays down the block. We don’t have the sights and sounds and I suppose some of the perks you get from living in big cities. I don’t know about you.. but I’m feeling pretty darn good about our all volunteer community theatre and our neighborhood library. The restaurant down the street doesn’t appear in the pages of Bon Appetit but I’m very fond of steak & craft beer night! Our biggest traffic issues are on Saturday mornings when it seems everyone that owns a bike hits the roads. I’ve always wondered if living in a suburban community was really a good place to be. Now… Yep! I love it and I’m not leaving. I’ve seen the news and I’ve seen the crap that’s occurring in big cities around the country and I want NO PART OF IT. My roommates and I will only find ourselves inside Atlanta, Chicago, or Seattle city limits while waiting for our connecting flight to get somewhere else.
The news media is squawking because President Trump and Acting DHS Secretary, Chad Wolf said, “No More!” No more federal buildings are going to be destroyed because mayors are allowing what they claim to be peaceful protesters swing bats and throw burning bottles into them. No more breaking windows and busting down doors! These buildings DON’T belong to Seattle or Chicago or Portland… they belong to ME and every other tax payer in this country. If the mayors of those cities aren’t going to allow their police to protect them…. then Donald and Chad have some guys in uniforms that will.
The mayors aren’t happy about it and have sent a scathing letter demanding that these Federal troops be removed from their cities lickity split. I’ll give you a summary….. Get out! No right to send military into our cities! Acting like Gestapo Secret Police!
And MY responses: NO, YES he does! Secret police don’t wear uniforms with their name and employer stitched on the sleeve.
I can explain this in a nutshell. Democrat run cities won’t admit they have Antifa Rioters destoying them. They don’t want to acknowledge what the rest of the country can see with their own eyes…. THESE ARE NOT PEACEFUL PROTESTERS!!!! They have created an unworkable situation for their local police to deal with. The President is a Republican (and to make matters worse… is up for re-election) and they would rather burn their cities to the ground than give that man one molecule of credit for fixing their disaster. He took an oath:
to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC
It looks to me like he’s clearly upholding his oath. You can fiddle faddle with the legal standing of which section of the judicial code is on his side and which one says he has overstepped his bounds. Go ahead… debate it all you want. I’ve already typed out my response and am ready to send it. As a taxpayer…. these big city mayors are now infringing on MY rights and destroying MY property by allowing this insanity. So.. .Here’s my response that I shall be sending forth:
Dear All of you Useless Pandering Elected Officials: I read your letter and since I technically OWN those buildings they are protecting, I’m gonna respond. NO! That’s my answer. The Federal officers are NOT leaving. If you want to let the rest of your city turn into smoldering rubble, go right ahead… but NOT my buildings. Not my courthouse. Not my post office. Not my IRS office (well… I’m not sure about the IRS… but the rest of them… NOPE). And, if you want to continue to allow these protesters to make your city streets un-walkable and un-livable… that’s up to you but I must warn you…. it didn’t go too well for the Minneapolis mayor. The people in the middle of the country are NOT going to pick up the tab for your righteous protesters slinging bricks and paint. So… check your bank accounts… make sure you’ve got the GREEN to rebuild the stuff they are destroying and go on with yourself.
As far as my message to citizens of those cities that are being forced to live with this chaos. I have a bit of good news for you. The COVID virus has walloped the country and there’s not many nice things you can say about it, but I did find ONE. It has become VERY apparent that for millions of workers who were fighting the traffic or being smushed on subways… you don’t need to do that anymore. I think it’s very obvious that huge office buildings will become a thing of the past. There is no need to go to those places to do your job. You don’t have to drink stale coffee or eat in the break room. If you have a phone, a laptop and a Fed Ex Office nearby… you are set. So… any of you that want to try out small town living… come on. We welcome new neighbors into our communities and we’d be happy to have you.
As a patio blogger, I feel very strongly about this topic. I am aware that our country has a bit of a “debt” issue and we need to cut corners where we can. We can certainly be fiscally responsible by not repainting and rebuilding structures that up to this moment are perfectly habitable. The walls are solid, the paint is acceptable, and the windows aren’t broken. If any of you in the big cities think that the rioting, looting and destruction are just people exercising their 1st amendment rights…… then make sure you fully understand the saying… “You Break It …. You Buy It” The “small town living Americans” are NOT footing the bill for this crap! We are NOT giving you the PIN number to our ATM so you can fix things that you NEVER should have allowed to be broken!
My PSA – If your investment portfolio contains commercial real estate holdings…. I’d consider divesting if I were you. See my previous paragraph.
