Good morning to everyone that is scratching their head wondering what the heck is really happening with the COVID virus in the Sunshine State. It’s certainly a valid question given that the state seems to be the center of attention by the media now. Yesterday whilst sitting on my patio, I was approached by my youngest roommate who is eagerly awaiting news about whether his older brother will be vacating our house in August to resume his college education as well as whether he will be walking the halls of high school. He wanted to know why Florida was being overrun by the COVID virus right now. I gave him the simplest answer I could because… he’s 17 and he doesn’t like LOOONNNNGGG conversations with MOM. I said it’s money and politics. His response….. “sounds like that’s a topic for a blog, but leave ME out of it”.
If you take a glance at any mainstream media source… the COVID numbers in Florida are certainly a big topic. Is it because Florida is the Hiroshima of the virus bomb? If you look at the REAL data… it’s not. If you listen to the media brigade… it is. New York has 408,000 cases and 32,092 deaths as I’m typing this. Florida has 302,000 cases and 4,520 deaths. Florida has about 2 million MORE residents than New York. If you ask me….. they are missing the real story here. There’s a HUGE disparity in outcomes with those 2 states and one is being heralded as a success and the other a failure. Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) has appeared on television shows recently laughing and hocking commorative posters that highlight the New York COVID battle. I looked at his poster with it’s clip art graphics and I found one graphic appeared to have been left off. I’m sure it was a mere oversight and the 2nd editions will have this right on top of his ridiculous mountain:
This piece of paper can be tied to over 6,000 deaths in New York. This mandate which was allowed to remain in place for 45 days at the height of the crisis in NY state resulted in death. I skimmed the report released by the NY Department of Health on July 6, and I’m not buying their assertion that the mandate and high death rate are NOT connected. They can issue 33 pages of words if they want to but the bottom line is…. WE WERE ALL TOLD TO STAY HOME TO AVOID INFECTING THE ELDERLY meanwhile THIS DUNDERHEAD is waving a green flag and wheeling them inside their living quarters! He was mandating that Covid Corrine share a room with Healthy Helen!!! Now.. .if this paper had been signed by Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), I assure you it would be on the front page of every newspaper along with being a permanent fixture in the top right screen of every news show in the land. BUT…. it’s not signed by DeSantis, it’s signed by Cuomo and therefore is a taboo topic for the biased media. They don’t bring it up, they don’t shove a microphone in his face and DEMAND accountability for the thousands of families that lost loved ones because of his rule that nursing homes HAD TO ADMIT COVID patients into their facilities. Now… when he has meekly addressed it, the excuse has been he “followed federal guidelines” (oh really big guy?? Which ones?) OR that he was “freeing up bed space in hospitals for patients” (you had a temporary tent city set up in a park and a large boat docked in your harbor that had PLENTY of beds)….. so again, my question… WHY ARE YOU ON A VICTORY TOUR instead of a WALK OF SHAME STROLL??? Certainly the families of the deceased are entitled to answers. I’d say the rest of the country is due some as well. Through COVID tracing we know a pretty important nugget of information which is…. New York’s failures effected everyone. This leads me back to my roommate and his questions about Florida.
Let’s head over to the media organizations which I like to refer to as “The island of misfit reporters” … they are on top of the story and are relaying to the world that Florida is the epicenter of the virus because… checks notes… Governor DeSantis (R-FL) opened everything up too soon. He’s directly to blame for the increase of cases. There’s one slight problem with their rant… it’s NOT true. There is no evidence proving that people eating in a restaurant, walking on a beach, or heading to stores have caused the increase in cases. IF opening too soon was a factor then we would be talking about Georgia and NOT Florida right now. Georgia was among the 1st to reopen. On April 21, the Washington Post called Georgia “America’s #1 Death Destination.” The Atlantic said, “Experiment in Human Sacrifice” and the NY Times just said they “Screwed Up”. Newsflash… the media was wrong! Somewhere along the pandemic journey, the goalposts moved. The media was running a constant death count ticker as the toll rose. Then one day, that ticker disappeared. Do you know that you have to SEARCH to find the number of deaths now? The obsession now is the growing cases. Of course we ALL know why the focus switched…. the deaths weren’t climbing fast enough anymore. They have slowed to a crawl.
If you take your political red hat / no hat off your head for a second and just LOOK at data you will see that in fact Florida is pretty much a success story in the COVID picture book. Although increases in cases may be disturbing …..we are in fact winning the war against the virus. A positive case of someone who at worst had the sniffles or a headache is really not the ISSUE even though the media is trying to convince you it is. The real issue is how many DEATHS are caused by the virus:
One cannot honestly talk about the COVID virus in Florida without discussing the numbers that have been released lately. Here are some recent headlines:
If you read these… you are led to believe that President Trump needs to call that big Navy boat back and tell them to drop anchor in the closest Florida harbor. The state is being overrun and will surpass New York’s dismal statistics in the near future if something isn’t done. People need to take cover, strap on their mask, knock the sand out of their flip flops and head indoors until the dark cloud of COVID passes over. But, NONE of that is necessary!! NONE OF IT! Do you know what IS necessary?? ETHICAL MEDIA organizations that actually employ REAL INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISTS because these stories have more hot air than the Hindenburg on it’s way down. In my patio blogger opinion… when you sling a death number out there like a biscuit but don’t explain that only a portion of the number occurred this month, then you are unethical. The same with the cases…. those cases were tested over a period of time and that period isn’t 24 hours! I’m not getting into the topic of false positives OR even the fact that a person can be listed more than once as a COVID case because of the data parameters. I will not point a finger at single source but there is ZERO doubt that the numbers being provided by labs, health care facilities and even the Florida Department of Health are COOKED! They are “Juking” the Stats or “Fudging” the figures” or whatever witty word you choose to describe FALSE. And… in case you are wondering…. it’s NOT a misplaced decimal point or a failure to carry the one. It’s NOT a math error. It’s a reporting error and they are up to their stethoscopes in it. WHEN it was brought to the attention of the powers that be… some issued new numbers. Orlando Health system revised their “positivity” rate from 98% to 9.4%. The Orlando Veterans Hospital had to revise their rate from 76% to 6%. 33 labs in the state reported 100% positivity which they have adjusted also. I’m not a statistician by any stretch but even I can see that the chances of 100% being true are equal to me holding my breath long enough to retrieve dinnerware from the sunken Titanic. And yet… the media reported it so the dimwits that walk amongst us are believing it. Florida DOESN’T have a COVID disaster on their hands, they have a REPORTING disaster! These reports have effectively paralyzed some citizens from being able to walk to their mailbox without fear. And… BACK to my original question from my roommate…. Why is it happening?? MONEY… medical providers get more money for every COVID patient and POLITICS… unfortunately for Ron DeSantis.. is of the wrong political affiliation according to the media and therefore the corrupt story plays a heck of a lot better in damaging him than the true one does. I’ll leave you with this last thought.. MONEY and POLITICS are BIG business in 49 other “locations” in this country too…… I wouldn’t put much faith in THEIR numbers either!
My PSA for the day….. as you read this, I’m probably snoozing on a table having my plumbing checked out. If you are 50+…. get a Colonoscopy. The idea of it and the prep cocktail are admittedly not pleasant, but it could save your life. No one dies from embarrassment but they do die from Colon Cancer.
