Yesterday… I got the date wrong on my blog title. I actually looked at the calendar this morning, so I know this one is right. This is going to be a quick blog because I’m going to the barn this morning to start my Saturday off right. Let’s talk about the calendar just for a second.

Yesterday (June 19th) also known as Juneteenth is a very important day for civil rights because it is the day that the last slaves in Texas were finally freed. It’s a day that should be acknowledged and celebrated. Our country was ripped apart at the seams literally fighting over slavery. Today, once again our country is divided over so many issues. I decided to turn back the clock a bit and look at how much different our country was a mere 4 years ago. At that time, we had our 1st black President and he was a champion of the rights of those that experience racism daily. So, on this important day, we should learn from how he brought the country together and encouraged mass celebrations of the Juneteenth event. We should never forget the speech that he gave marking this date since this would be his LAST in office. I looked at the White House archives website for June 19, 2016 to find those details and the important words that he spoke and want to share them with all of you.

Here are the highlights from his speech on that all important day:

He issued a statement. No speech. No event marking this historic day. It was his LAST chance to stand in front of Americans and proclaim the importance of this day. He chose not to. He actually had ZERO events on his calendar on that day. The least racist president ever according to many ignored the holiday. Make of this information what you want.

Good day!
