Good morning to Everyone that knows Bunny Colvin’s “Hamsterdam” experiment in Seattle is NOT going to end well.
I’d love to report to you one morning… I’ve got nothing. Zilch. The media behaved yesterday and reported facts without bias or commentary, but I’ve had no such luck so far. If you’ve ever wondered….. HOW LONG does it take Meredith to find all of this stuff and type it out… I will answer your question. 1 cup of coffee. That’s it… it takes me as long to find it as it does to drink my 1 cup of coffee every morning. Disgusting isn’t it.
Wouldn’t you love for me to have to tell you it takes an hour or 2 to search high and low… HAHA! Not a chance. Every morning I fire up the old laptop, hit the MSM websites and this crap falls in my lap. It’s not even a challenge anymore. I don’t even have to search out the stories to verify they are true. I can honestly read the story… Google the topic and BOOM.. I know.
Yesterday, I went to the barn and had a wonderful afternoon with 2 of the sweetest horses and 2 of the most inspiring students. They touched my heart. Then…. I hopped in the car and headed home. I put the Sirius on CNN… because how on Earth will I ever be able to tell you about that clown car if I don’t listen to them occassionally. I heard Chuck Schumer… My grip on the steering wheel was so tight, I could have ripped that thing off the car.
Good Ole Chuck was talking about much needed legislation to address systemic racism and violence suffered at the hands of our out of control police departments. He said he has no faith that the President or the Republican party will craft or agree to anything meaningful to address the problems. THIS IS WHERE I LOST IT!
There is enough hot air blowing through the halls of Congress… Bob & Doug could have sat on top of the building and blown straight to the Space Station without a rocket. Before you get in a twist, I’m leveling that charge at EVERYONE in that building.. Democrats &Republicans. They are all a bunch of useless always pandering politicians. Let’s break it down shall we:
The charge right now is that systemic racism is rampant and has been ongoing for 40+ years. The minorities in this country have suffered long enough. These instances of violence have gone on too often and for too damn long.
Here’s my reply: I took Civics in high school. I know all about the 3 branches of Government and I know how laws are made. IF …. as you say, it’s been going on for 40+ years.. WHY is everyone’s hair on fire right now? Why today? Because George Floyd was murdered in cold blood before our eyes? NOPE.. not buying it. If it’s such a horrible disgusting trend that has gone on for 40+ years… why wasn’t it addressed and laws passed oh…. about 11 years ago?
Right now, it’s very hard to pass a law. You’ve got a Republican President, A Republican Senate with a VERY thin margin of control which can be nonexistent if 3 don’t vote party lines, and a Democrat controlled House of Representatives. BUT.. a mere 11 years ago, the Democrat party controlled it all and by control I mean.. FULL STOP they had the votes to push anything thru. They had a SUPER majority in the Senate and Republicans couldn’t STOP anything they tried to pass. (That’s how we got The Affordable Care Act).
They could have passed immigration laws, or border security, or voting rights or ANYTHING under the sun that they wanted. So Chuck’s concerns and Nancy’s outrage falls on deaf ears with me. I just cannot / will not give them a pass on this. THEY COULD HAVE FIXED THIS EASILY but they didn’t. They chose to NOT use their power and demand that these atrocities stop occurring. When they criticize Trump’s proposal or say it doesn’t go far enough (because they WILL) I put earplugs in my ears.
With a black president and 2 black Attorneys General… they did NOTHING! They can whimper and whine but the truth is… They failed the American citizens and their refusal to acknowledge that missed opportunity leads me to not give their words much attention.
The Republicans don’t get a pass on this stuff either. They controlled everything at the beginning of Trump’s term too. They did not have a super majority and they did still have those party line jumpers so it wouldn’t have been AS easy to pass new laws, but it could have been done.
Bottom line…. The Buffoons in Congress squawking about legislation that is needed and the only legislation that I believe should be done immediately is TERM LIMITS. When you have people that have been walking those halls for decades and haven’t been in the real world earning a paycheck since Jimmy Carter was in office… you get a bunch of out of touch unproductive twits running things. Asking them to pass a law to make them clean out their desk is a BIG ASK, but dammit… it’s a necessary one!
We had Bush 8 years… he’s kicking it in Crawford, TX now… Obama 8 years and he’s dividing his time between DC and an oceanfront mansion in the Hamptons. Trump has been there 4 so far and we know that if he is the best president or the worst… 4 years from now, he’ll be at Mar a Lago…. BUT Congress…. they only leave when voters make them leave.
I point this out to you because everyone is obsessed with who our President will be in 2021 but I’m here to tell you, in the grand scheme of things…. it doesn’t matter near as much as you might think it does. It matters infinitely more WHO you send to Congress, WHO sits in your Governor’s mansion, and WHO is the mayor of your city. Those are the people that control pretty much everything around you. Take note of that on Election day and instead of being so focused on the top box on the ballot…. move down a bit and look at the names below.
They are the ones that locked you in your house when the Covid hit. They are the ones determining what can open and when. They are the ones that allowed some to protest and arrested others. They are the ones that control whether the National Guard is called in to keep rioters from burning down your businesses and homes. They are the ones that implemented a curfew or determine if your kids are allowed to play sports or sit in a classroom.
Just like the media… the loudest and most often covered story is not necessarily the most important one. The election of a President is not the most important office on the ballot. If you want to see real change occur and you want to see real laws passed that will make a better world for you and your children, you MUST focus on the people that create laws. The issues that many are screaming about today are NOT the result of President Trump or his administration… they are the result of the people in Government occupying the OTHER branch… The LEGISLATIVE branch. They have FAILED all of us.
